On May 7, 2005, Dan left his home to quickly run to town to pick up a Mother's Day card for his wife Kathy. Dan traveled to town, bought a card and flowers and headed back home where his wife, son and his son's fiance Nicole were waiting to go out to dinner. Unfortunately, a pizza delivery driver did not see Dan traveling towards him and pulled in front of Dan who was obeying all speed limits and traffic laws. As a result, Dan's motorcycle struck the oncoming vehicle and was thrown off of his bike to land many yards away. Although Dan was rushed to the hospital, the injuries sustained were not survivable and Dan was pronounced dead upon arrival to the ER. Those who were still back at home became worried after too much time had passed. After getting in their vehicle to investigate where Dan may be, they had the misfortune to come on to the scene of the accident which was only 3 miles away. Later they were advised at the ER of Dan's untimely passing.
